If Love Next Door’s Choi Seung-hyo doesn’t make your heart flutter, we don’t know who will. Jung Hae-in has reignited our love for K-drama oppas, proving why Hallyu actors are the biggest green flags we all need (and deserve). Apart from the stars’ charming smiles, what really seals the deal is how fit and lean they always look. Jung Hae-in, in particular, has been extremely diligent with his workouts. If you’ve also been inspired by Jung Hae-in to kickstart your fitness journey, here’s everything to know about his workout routine.
Whether it’s undergoing rigorous physical training, learning martial arts and cutting down on his sleep for Snowdrop or mastering boxing for months before filming his military-themed drama D.P – Jung Hae-in effortlessly transforms his body for various roles and it shows. Even in his late 30s, he looks just as glamorous as ever.
According to multiple reports, Jung Hae-in runs on the treadmill for 20-30 minutes to de-freeze his muscles. Cardio has an array of benefits for your brain, joints, skin, muscles, digestion, lungs and thereby overall fitness.
If you’ve ever stepped into a gym, worked out at home or played a sport – it all starts with a quick cardio session to warm up the body’s muscles and get your blood pumping. Cardiovascular or aerobic exercises are coordinated physical activities that increase your heart rate for an extended period of time. It includes walking, bicycling, swimming or using ellipticals, steppers, treadmills as well as rowing machines.
Here are some of the benefits of cardio exercises:
To tone his body and strengthen core muscles, Jung Hae-in does weightlifting exercises, according to Metro Style. Lifting weights using dumbbells, resistance bands or more equipment helps build muscle mass, strength, and endurance. The K-drama actor religiously does push-ups and pull-ups to attain those washboard abs. Moreover, bench presses are another Jung Hae-in-approved exercise he indulges in to enhance his biceps and triceps. Thanks to these exercises, the actor broke the internet with his visuals in While You Were Sleeping. If you know, you know!
An actor like Jung Hae-in goes out on a limb for his characters. Thanks to his intense workout for Snowdrop, the actor made his North Korean spy role so effortless and iconic. Speaking about the intensity of his role and prep work, he said, “I learned all different kinds of martial arts and regional dialects. But most of all, I worked out a lot.” He added that out of the four hours reserved for sleeping, he split it into two hours of rest and workout. “I’d sleep for two hours and hit the gym for the remaining two”. Remarkable, isn’t it?
While we don’t exactly know which specific kind of martial art Jung Hae-in performed, some of the most popular types include kung fu, karate, judo and jujitsu. Martial arts go way beyond self-defence. They lead to increased confidence and flexibility, better coordination, and lower blood pressure and heart rate.
In Netflix’s Deserter Pursuit (D.P), Jung Hae-in played an action-packed role for which the actor underwent three months of intense boxing training. At the show’s press conference, Jung Hae-in mentioned that the director and martial arts trainer wanted the actors to perform the action scenes at once without any cuts. “The acting has to be very realistic,” he added.
A combat sport, boxing has been in existence way before the time of ancient Greece and the original Olympics. The art teaches you intricate hand movements and footwork drills to evade punches. It boosts whole-body strength, improves balance, lowers stress, boosts endurance as well as helps weight management.
