This week, action on the BWF World Tour 2024 resumed after over a month and a half. The Japan Open 2024 is the first major badminton tournament since the Olympics that concluded earlier this month. Naturally, there is considerable excitement as fans are eager to see their favourite shuttlers return to the court.
Before we delve deep into the details of the event, here are some quick facts:
Contested for the first time in 1982, the Japan Open is now in its 43rd edition. It is organised by the Nippon Badminton Association with sanction from the Badminton World Federation (BWF). Since 2018, the tournament has gained the status of a BWF Super 750 event and ranks alongside the likes of the French Open and the Singapore Open.
Given that it is a Super 750 competition, the stature of the Japan Open is grand enough to attract the stars of today. In the ongoing edition, players like Kodai Naraoka and Kenta Nishimoto have been seen in action.
But what determines the stature of a tournament? We talk about factors such as ranking points and cash rewards that the players can gain by virtue of their performances. The Japan Open has substantial financial incentives and BWF points on offer.
So, on that note, join us as we take you through the prize money pool of the Japan Open 2024, the schedule and venue of the badminton tournament’s final, and where to live stream the matches.
